YOUR article in Saturday’s paper “Maules Creek mine will prove Leard Forest’s death warrant” was a blunt reminder that as a community we have a responsibility to stand up for the environment and resist the impact of the mining industry on our native landscape.
This project is proposed in an area where mining activity is already very intensive, with two other mines already in existence on the edge of the Leard’s Forest.
As a resident of the North West I am determined that we hold accountable our authorities for their efforts to create jobs at the expense of environmental destruction.
Our inaction on the issue has the effect of supporting it. I hold grave fears for future generations who I believe will look back at this period with incredulity and shame.
