Moree next for in-form stable

GAVIN Groth might have a truckload of success at Moree this Friday.

The odds are the Gunnedah trainer, who has nominated six of his stable for the Moree Race Club meeting, will celebrate at least one winner as Groth has trained a winner at four of the last five meetings he’s attended.

His run of wins started at Tamworth when Baabulu won the Noelene Martin Memorial at big odds.

A day later and he won at Narromine with Camlouise.

Last Monday he made it three meetings in succession when Darkness descended on Coonabarabran Cup day to win the third race out there.

On Saturday, Groth went to Mudgee and Armidale, taking Montana Maree and Cracka Million to Mudgee whilst he had Ima Secret in at Armidale.

Ima Secret kept the run going by winning the first at Armidale but Montana Maree and Cracka Million missed out at Mudgee.

Groth was still upbeat.

“It’s been a good run,” he told The Leader from Mudgee on Saturday afternoon.

And what did he put it down to?

A lot of hard work,” he said.

“A lot of hard work is starting to pay off.

“Getting a winner at the last four meetings is terrific. 

“Hopefully we can continue it at Moree on Friday. 

“I have six in up there and I think a couple have got good chances.”

Groth has Zanda’s Law (B60 1400m), The Early Bird (B50 1600m), Three Strands (C2 1200m), Darkness (C1 1400m), Iron Mistress (Maiden 950m) and Mount Annan (Maiden Plate 1300m) nominated.

Zanda’s Law was unlucky at Narromine recently and will strip fit for Friday’s Clifford W Riddle Kitchens of Distinction B60 handicap (1400m).

Coonabarabran winner Darkness will also stake a claim in the GD and JA Bartlett Building Contractors Class 1 Handicap (1400m) after his impressive surge home up the Coona rise.

Groth doesn’t have a runner though in the $15,000 Home Timber and Hardware Benchmark 65 Handicap (1200m).

That drew 10 sprinters yesterday, including Coonabarabran Cup starter Counterspy (Campbell Roberts), Big Bad Joel (Pat Webster) and Rod Northam’s Madison County.
