Major Hyman’s contribution to country and to the city of Tamworth is acknowledged by the park named in his honour in South Tamworth.
The Lions Club of Tamworth plans to erect a memorial plaque in Hyman Park detailing his achievements.
This will be unveiled on the centenary of the Battle of Beersheba on 31st October, 2017.
The life of Major Hyman is well documented in records held in the City Library and the Historical Society.
However, the organisers would welcome input from people who knew Major Hyman.
In particular we would like to contact members of the Hyman family as it is important that they be involved in this project.
If you can help in this regard please contact the Lions Club of Tamworth, PO Box 133, Tamworth or ring me on 67628229.

Immigration debate
The ways in which various political parties have responded to the government's latest attacks on boat people were all predictable, but misplaced.
The Coalition government is lying. It is quite prepared to let Australia take in those who have traveled illegally on boats and used the services of people smugglers.
The only requirement is that the smuggling has to be to somewhere else.
Last year, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton proudly welcomed 12,000 Syrian boat people who had got themselves smuggled into Europe.
Everything these Syrians had done was illegal, and they crossed the sea by boat, not by plane.
They had done everything which the wretches on Manus and Nauru had done, but for the purpose of reaching somewhere other than Australia.
So now the word is out: if Muslim boat people want to go to Australia, they should get themselves smuggled to Europe, and after that our Coalition government itself will make sure that Australia will be their new home.

Concern over rising toll
Police said in the Leader today that 332 deaths by November is too high.
In the late 1960’s by November NSW would have had 1000 deaths and made over 1100 by new year’s eve.
Roads were worse then and there were a lot less cars on the road without safety features.
Police should remember these facts.

Senator in the firing line
It’s obvious that just like Pauline Hanson, the big guns are gunning for Senator Culleton.
It doesn’t pay to speak out honestly.
Any decision by the High Court only reinforces what Culleton was saying in his maiden speech about the banks and the justice system.
They will fix him up like they did when Pauline Hanson was illegally jailed.
Such is the ‘democratic’ Australian political system.

Ideal for library
Well really, former councillor Maher et al whining about the new library position.
That building is ideal for a new library. Plenty of parking space, and quite honestly for parking a lot better than the present CBD position. I hope the council has brought the freehold though.
The Phoenix Centre was up for $195,000 PA lease. No more increase in rates please!
We wouldn't be in this position if former councils had done their duty and not spent the available funds on a new library and not on something else. Pat Lightfoot, Armidale
