About 4pm on Thursday, the 76-year-old was confronted by an unknown man who pushed past her in the hallway of her Anthony Rd home.
He fled the house via a backdoor and was last seen running towards Robert St.
The woman suffered a cut to her arm and discovered several items of jewellery missing from the home.
Police were alerted and set up a crime scene.
The intruder is described as being between 20 and 30 years old, Aboriginal in appearance with light olive skin.
He was last seen wearing a black and red-coloured hooded jumper and long dark pants.
