Speaking to media in Tamworth on Thursday, Mr Joyce said he needed to deliver on projects already in the works before he added another one to the list.
“There’s no point in going out and saying we’ll get money for something else , let’s get these things that we’ve got moving,” he said.
“As soon as you say you support it, you’ve got to honestly say, find me the money.
“If I went to back to Canberra and said I want some money for a university in Tamworth.
“They’re going to say to me, how are your other projects going Charlie Chaplin? where are you up to with them? And I’ll say I haven’t started them yet, and they’ll say, go away.”
Mr Joyce’s comments follow a push by education advocates to establish a campus in the city.
