One local practice reported at least seven cases of snake bites this week alone, with calls for owners to keep an eye out for the warning signs of bites in their beloved family members.
Green Cross Small Animal Clinic vet, Stephanie Chaffey said there had been cases of both dogs and cats with bites that presented to the clinic this week.
She has urged locals to keep their lawns trimmed and remove excess rubbish from backyards to avoid any unwanted guests hiding out and surprising pets.
Dr Chaffey said vomiting, trembling, salivation, dilated pupils, excitement and weakness are signs of snake bites in dogs.
While cats can show signs of incoordination, weakness, dilated pupils and eventually paralysis.
Dr Chaffey said if your pet does show any of these signs and then “comes good”, owners should still take them to the vet, as this could be a sign of a more serious case.
