Thomas Michael Gould is being held in Cessnock Correctional Centre and waived his right to a contested committal hearing in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old has been in custody since he was arrested when police surrounded the Peel River in Tamworth in mid-August.

He is accused of supplying methylamphetamine between 10am on May 24 and 12.29pm on May 26 in Tamworth.

“That matter is to proceed by way of waiver of committal [for trial],” solicitor Garry Johnston told the court.

The court was told a back-up charge of possessing the same amount of methylamphetamine will be dealt with in the district court after the trial, while a charge of possessing 1g of cannabis leaf was withdrawn.

Magistrate Roger Prowse committed Gould for trial, with a date expected next year.

He remains bail refused.
