Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) side-stepped a flying-fox management plan at their Tuesday night meeting, opting for more information before making a commitment.
Councillor Russell Webb said the bats should be dealt with by the NSW government, citing areas across the state battling flying fox camps and suggesting coastal urbanisation has made the bats move inland.
Cr Webb said Inverell, Bingara, Barraba and Eurobodalla are among some regions having issues.
The state government recently granted TRC $50,000 to help the cause, but Cr Webb said it’s “about a third of what’s needed”.
The councillor said putting the responsibility on to whoever owned the land was “buck passing” and could leave individuals with bats issues in a tough situation.
“[Individuals] don’t have the resources, it puts undue pressure on landowners,” Cr Webb said.
