Ten men from the now-defunct Tamworth Apex Club have kept in touch for 31 years after the oldest member, Brian Thompson, became - well, too old for the service organisation’s 18-35 age bracket and “retired”.

For three decades since, they’ve been taking turns to organise yearly functions - many of them “mystery” events.

This year they’re getting together in Tamworth and they want to host a reunion for any current or former Apexians and their partners to enjoy.

Mr Thompson said it was a good chance to extend the fun that he and his ex-clubmates had been enjoying for years.

“Originally when we started our group and somebody wrote up our constitution, we would meet until Peter Bailey turned 40 - he was the youngest - but we’ve all been to his 60th birthday party, so we’ve been going for a lot longer,” Mr Thompson said.

They’ve met in locations across the region, across the country, and even across the ditch: Blenheim, New Zealand.

The 10 friends meet every year, if they can attend, including one who now lives in WA - and at one stage even travelled back from his home in Scotland to attend.

“It’s just friendship. We're all old grey-head blokes now,” Mr Thompson said.
