A CAMPAIGN encouraging Tamworth residents to donate their used car batteries in exchange for cash for life-saving medical equipment, has taken flight.

On Wednesday, the first defibrillators from the Rotary Club of Tamworth West’s campaign, were donated to Liberty College and Club Synergy.
The two organisations only had to pay for half of the cost of the heart starting machines, with the remainder coming out of the Rotary campaign, which sees old car and truck batteries recycled for cash.
Club president James Hindmarsh said, to date, six tonnes of batteries had been dropped off at the Bearfast drop off point and he was pleased with the response.
“We are overwhelmed, the response from the community has been absolutely amazing,” he said.
