TAMWORTH’S newest entertainment kid on the block is on track for a November 16 opening in the Centrepoint Shopping Centre.
JB Hi-Fi is in the middle of the final recruitment stages for the Tamworth store, with more than 40 staff on the books and a new managerial team.
Famous for being a one-stop shop for entertainment, the retail giant stocks everything from games to music, movies and computers.
It has the added bonus of being the only stockist in town of the full range of popular Apple products, including the Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone.
Werris Creek’s Nicole Smith is one of the new faces for Tamworth, joining the team as the music and movie co-ordinator after five years with the company in Sydney.
Joining media manager James Weighman, store manager Michael Monaghan and sales manager Lincoln Vero, who is originally from Merriwa, the team said they were excited about the new store opening.
The Leader announced in July the electronics retailer had targeted Tamworth as its newest destination, as have German supermarket Aldi, Go Sushi, Kick Juice Bar, se7en takeaway store and Brumby’s GO!, which will replace the shopping centre’s existing bakery.
The new businesses are part of a $500,000 redevelopment of the shopping centre.
On-site building work started in August.
Aldi has announced a November opening date for the supermarket, which is in the space vacated by Franklins, with JB Hi-Fi to move in next door.
Promising a big-name Australian artist for the November 16 official opening, Mrs Smith said local artists would also feel like part of the family.
“We’re very involved with the community. We actively encourage local artists to come in, post their flyers and drop off their CDs,” Mrs Smith said.
Lucky Tamworth residents may get a sneak peek at the new store before the opening, with infrastructure works complete and stock beginning to arrive this week.
“We may be ready for a ‘soft’ opening a few days early. We’re very excited about it,” Mr Weighman said.
