GET your pride and joy sparkling clean today and help Girl Guides Australia and Repco break a Guinness World Record for the most cars washed in an eight-hour period.
From 9am to 1pm at Repco Tamworth on Bridge St, about 20 Tamworth Guides, aged between 10 and 15, will be armed with car sponges and buckets filled with suds for the effort.
Guides, accompanied by their parents and grandparents, from 100 communities nationwide will wash and scrub cars at their local Repcos for either eight or four hours on Saturday.
Tamworth Girl Guides support group treasurer and local car wash co-ordinator Lyn McGuckin said more than 60 car wash tickets, at $5 each, were available and are available from the Repco store.
The local group hopes to wash a minimum of 25 cars on the day.
The Guinness World Record for most cars washed in an eight-hour period stands at 4344; it is hoped this will be broken on Saturday by reaching the 5000 mark.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Girl Guides Australia, which provides leadership and personal-skills development to girls and young women throughout Australia.
“Events like these provide us with the opportunity to raise much-needed funds to continue our work within the community,” Girl Guides Australia national operations manager Lorna Stevens said.
