The regional airline will do several return Brisbane flights every week.
Tamworth Regional Council deputy mayor Helen Tickle said it was a “very strong endorsement” of Tamworth, its airport and the greater region.
“We are a growing regional centre and this will add to our possibilities and growth,” Cr Tickle said. “Like any competition, it’s going to make everyone sharpen their pencil and I’m sure we will see some competition with airfares.”
Fly Corporate sales manager Geoff Woodham said tickets would start from $179 each way. “We’ve put a lot of hard work into making sure we’ve got the right schedules,” Mr Woodham said.
“We don’t look at this lightly, we come into a market and make sure it’s going to viable for not only us, but also the community.”
The airline was “very excited” to add the city to its network, which includes Armidale, Narrabri and Moree.
