The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) issued a warning to regional and rural air travellers not to carry the device under any circumstances, in either checked in or carry-on baggage.
Under Australian Aviation dangerous goods safety regulation lithium batteries like the Note 7’s, which have been identified as producing “dangerous heat” and have the potential to short circuit, have been forbidden for transport by air.
It follows a recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 by the manufacturer after a number overheated and caught fire around the world.
Major airlines have already banned the device.
CASA has reminded smaller regional and rural airlines and charter services that the ban applies across the board.
