For the second time in as many weeks they scored over 200. Again though it wasn’t quite enough, with City just falling short of South Tamworth’s 2-286.
“You don’t score 260-odd many games and lose. But full credit to Souths. They had two blokes that got 100s,” Smith said.
He then almost matched that effort, smacking 90 off just 76 balls, and with new English import Liam Cameron putting on 75 for the first wicket. Tom Fitzgerald then joined Smith, and they added 83 for the second wicket before Smith, by his own admission, “threw it away”.
“I was a bit disappointed with myself. There was still a job to do,” he said.
Fitzgerald (73no) and Mackenzie Morison (37) continued that job and kept the equation at about 10 an over heading into the final few overs.
“It was a good allround effort, everyone chipped in,” Smith said.
