The Tamworth Blues though bowed out after falling just two runs short against Upper Hunter.

Chasing the home sides 6-233, victory looked in sight for the Blues at 6-204 in the 41st over but they battled to get the remaining runs and were all out for 231 in the 49th over.

“We threw our wickets away,” Tamworth skipper Chris Paterson said.

He made 24 after Brad Smith and Adam Jones had both hit 42 and Tom Fitzgerald notched his second half-century for the weekend with 58.

Tait Jordan was earlier the Blues’ best with the ball with 5-35.

“He bowled very well. He bowled in good areas and bowled a very good length,” Paterson said.

Lachie Davidson (1-45) also bowled a very good second spell.

At Walcha the home side scrambled their way to 99 with Pete Mooney hitting 20 and Lee Harrison 19.

Aaron Johnson then cut a swathe through the Peel Valley line-up claiming 6-32.

Harrison also chimed in with 3-24 as they rolled Peel Valley for 75.

Inverell also batted first but plundered 9-256 against Glen Innes with Dave Mudaliar hitting 53, Sage Cook 40, Richard Wilson 23, Tom Scoble 22 and Joe Smith 20. 

Led by Scoble (4-11) and Jaidon Tasker (4-7) they then routed Glen Innes for 75.

Out at Collins Park Narrabri posted a 100-run win over Gunnedah.

Solid scores from Shane Murphy, Luke Meppem, Jake Packer and captain Lachie Cameron formed the backbone of Narrabri's 8-240 after the hosts struggled at 1-0 and 2-22.

The visitors never looked in contention during the run chase as the run rate remained below three per over, while the highest individual score was 26.

Craig Trindall and Ryan Meppem were the pick of Narrabri's bowlers with three victims each, while Jake Brayshaw picked up two wickets.

Cameron spoke well of his team's batting, saying it was about patience, and that there was a good all-round performance as several players contributed well.

"We talked about staying patient and making sure we batted the 50 (overs)," Cameron said.
