The third Compost Revolution Bio Energy Conference will feature speakers on farm composting and economics; using biochar in stock feeds and fertilisers, as well as sustainable farming.
One organiser, former fertiliser-spreading business owner and ex-poultry farmer Richard Walker, said he encouraged farmers to attend for ideas on how to improve their soil structure and reduce their need for chemical use.
“[Soil was] a composted product from millions of years ago, a breakdown of grass and rocks and everything else,” he said.
“We put synthetic fertiliser in there, which worked well for a long time, but these days it’s not working as well.
“By putting compost products in, you slowly change your soil structure to allow the nutrition in the soil to become active again.”
