THE Member for New England, Tony Windsor, claims Australians support the hung parliament, and independents are more popular than ever.
As Mr Windsor seems to have suffered a memory lapse, I would like to remind him and your readers just what this hung parliament has delivered.
A gross debt which today has ballooned to $259 billion; The National Broadband Network which has suffered a $923 million loss and has achieved just 10 per cent of its target fibre connections; Destruction of the live cattle trade in northern Australia, and then a $20 million handout to Indonesians to make them better farmers; A complete reversal on the private health insurance rebate where it is now income tested; Closure of the Chronic Disease Dental Scheme; Fiddling of the books to get a phoney Budget surplus; and, of course, the crowning glory – the carbon tax.
Mr Windsor has the audacity to claim he is an independent, but part of his agreement with the Labor government clearly states he must consult with the ALP before voting on legislation.
He is responsible for this farcical government that is running this great country.
