TAMWORTH Gymnastics Club has excelled at another NSW State Gymnastics Championships.
The Northern Inland Credit Union-sponsored club celebrated its latest State champion – Georgia Pryer – this week.
Club coach Jan McGinnity said Pryer became a state champion when she placed third overall on Level Five Intermediate.
“Georgia individually placed first on bars and sixth on vault to take the overall title,” McGinnity said yesterday.
The club had a clean sweep on Level Four Intermediate vault, the premier division at the championships, when Sharna Tapp won gold, Charlotte Fay the silver medal and Chloe Beckhaus the bronze medal.
“This was quite an achievement for this small country club,” McGinnity said.
“On Level Five senior, Mirren McGuire kept the flag flying on vault when she picked up the silver medal and Amber Kuczer took sixth place on the uneven bars.
“As a result of the club’s fine results, three gymnasts have been selected to join the NSW State Training Squad.
“Georgia Pryer, Sharna Tapp and Charlotte Fay will join Whitney Johnston, Philippa Tockuss and Julia Hannaford in the state development squads.
“Whitney and Philippa are in the number one squad, Julia in number two squad, Georgia in number three and Charlotte and Sharna in the number four squad.
“All the girls will travel to Sydney to train under master coaches to develop their skills to a higher level.”
McGinnity said the girls would travel to Sydney four times a year along with herself and husband, Steve McGinnity, the club coaches, so the gymnasts can further their knowledge.
