Sydney-based artist Janet Seidel has just returned home from New York in the United States with her longtime partner, and guitarist, Chuck Morgan.
Ms Seidel had barely touched down in Australia before she was on the phone to her long-time musician mate, and well known local, John Muller in Tamworth, making plans for a visit to the city.
A familiar face to the home of country music, all be it for a different genre, Ms Seidel has graced the stage on a handful of occasions over the years, playing to packed crowds.
This time round, the concert will be in aid of the Billabong Clubhouse to support people who have experienced a mental illness.
The Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music – a long time supporter of the Billabong concerts with teachers and students performing at the shows – has come on board for the intimate show.
The Janet Seidel concert, with supporting performers, Kate Armstrong and Tim Godden, will be held in the Conservatorium Chapel on October 22 at 3pm.
Tickets for the show in the chapel, which holds only 126 seats, are still available from Billabong Clubhouse.
And it won’t be the only stop for Ms Seidel in the North West, with the singer set to hold a hold a concert and workshop in Gunnedah on October 23.
Brother David Seidel will be on bass, Chuck Morgan will take the guitar, and in the tradition of keeping it in the family, Chuck’s son, Joshua, will play the drums during his first visit to the area.
Ms Seidel’s association and passion for the Billabong cause is one that spans more than 16 years.
It was 1999 when she first performed at a Billabong Clubhouse jazz concert.
The concerts, founded, produced and directed by John Muller, ran for 15 years between 1997 and 2011, and raised $260,000 over the 15 year period.
The concerts, a well-known event in the Tamworth musical circles, have been a favourite past time for many singers across the jazz, country music and classical genres, with locals taking the microphone to jam to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Michael Buble, Judy Garland, Doris Day and Ella Fitzgerald, to name just a few.
Familiar local faces like Felicity Urquhart, Aleyce Simmonds, Roshani Priddis, Gabriela Bonomo, Mim Gardiner, Ann Walsh, Kate Armstrong, Peter Harkins, Rob McDougall, Peter Ross and Robert Scott also performed at the concerts as the years went by and their careers developed.
