Through their inaugural community open day at 360 Fitness Club on November 13, the region’s army reserve unit will showcase military vehicles and equipment, hold blank firing demonstrations, offer camouflage face painting, provide live music and recruit for the regiment from 10am.
“Members of 12/16 are locals; they are business owners, emergency services personnel, farmers and
we want to re-connect with the local community,” 12/16 HRL Regimental Sergeant Major Warrant Officer Class One Jason Moriarty said.
“We want to give the community ownership of the unit and are actively recruiting to bolster our numbers, particularly cavalry scouts. We want to give the community a feel for what it’s like to be in the army.”
The open day will also include a fresh food farmer’s market and local business stalls.
Defence Force Recruiting will demonstrate the range of careers available in the Australian Defence Force.
One of the many highlights of the day will be a corporate challenge based around military skills led by the 12/16 HRL and a physical trainer between 11.30am and 2pm.
The challenge is for teams of four with $50 entry per team. The money will be donated to the Tamworth Young Veterans for their memorial.
The open day will run from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, November 13 at 360 Fitness Club on Beaufort St, Taminda.
