Bay mare Iownaturbo won by a big margin of 15m after starting as second favourite with odds of $3.60 in the fifth race of the day: the Tab Rewards Pace 1980m.
The favourite, Cheers Kathy NZ, with starting odds of $1.70, came second-last in a field of 10.
The last-placed Falco had the biggest starting odds at $50.80, while the horse with the second-biggest odds at $46.70, Bayside Resort, came second.
Grima had driven Iownaturbo in three events during August, with a first placing and a second placing in Tamworth on August 4 and 14 respectively, before coming third-last in a field of 12 in Newcastle on August 20.
The bay mare was caught wide early in the race on August 20, and the rider incurred a $200 fine.
Iownaturbo’s owner, breeder and trainer Alan Goodhand made mention that the bay mare “got caught wide” on August 20, but that Iownaturbo had won at Dubbo and Bathurst as well as Tamworth.
“She just goes good. She’s just a nice horse,” Goodhand said.
As for whether there was any particular strategy or key to winning the race, Goodhand said “pull the earplugs out for the last quarter” made a difference as it “fires them up”.
Goodhand also gave credit to Grima for his effective driving.
Grima’s success was followed by another victory for a male driver: Nathan Carroll.
Carroll was the driver as Cody Shannon, a bay gelding trained by Stacie Elliott of Keinbah, achieved first place in the Graham Moon Plumbing Pace 1980m.
The bay gelding won a Newcastle race on June 17 before placing fifth, seventh, sixth and tenth during September: all at Newcastle.
With other not-so-impressive results since June 17, Cody Shannon had starting odds of $19 for Sunday’s sixth race before beating $2.60 favourite Dontbefoolish with a 3.4m margin.
With the first four races and the final race featuring a female-winning driver, the third and final win for a male driver was in race seven.
Anthony Varga was the driver while the horse was Rodney Strides, a brown gelding which was $1.90 favourite to win the 1980m Wests Entertainment Group Race Day October 16 Pace.
The Ian Mabbott-trained Rodney Strides won by a 7.1m margin while the second placegetter was Major Montana which had starting odds of $2.80.
Back in race three, Varga looked set to win as he was the driver of $2.20 favourite Sassy Shannon in the Millenium Signs Ladyship Pace 1609m.
Sassy Shannon led narrowly for a while before Sporty Belle, which had starting odds of $2.50, snatched a last-gasp victory.
