Speed limits changed
MOTORISTS will face new lower speed limit zones in three places at Oxley Vale, Nemingha and on Waterfall Way at Armidale.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) says a review as part of the NSW audit of speed zones prompted a change to the limits in the three zones.
“The review assessed a number of factors, including road environment, traffic characteristics and crash data,” an RMS spokesman said.
The new slower speeds will apply to Manilla Rd, between Glengarvin Dr and Browns Ln.
“The existing 100km/h speed limit on Manilla Road will be reduced to 80km/h, from 400 metres north of Glengarvin Dr to 200m north of Browns Ln,” the spokesman said.
And on Back Kootingal Rd, the current 100km/h zone will be reduced to 80km/h, from 700m north of Nundle Rd to 750m north of Ormans Ln.
“The changes will provide a more consistent approach to speed limits along these roads and improve safety,” the spokesman said.
In Armidale, the change means slower speeds for motorists travelling out of Armidale on Grafton Rd towards Ebor.
The 100km/h speed limit will be reduced to 80km/h, from 690m to about two kilometres east of Canambe St.
“The change will improve road safety and better reflect the road conditions,” the spokesman said.
Warning signs will be in place to advise motorists of the change and will remain for at least a week after the new speed limit signs have been installed.
The new zone is expected to be introduced in about two weeks, weather permitting.
The RMS says the public can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits.
