Police will allege Zachary Wallman lashed out at officers during an arrest in Bourne St on Wednesday morning.
Oxley Acting Inspector Josh McKenzie told The Leader police from the Tamworth Target Action Group were carrying out an operation when a 19-year-old man ran from officers.
“Police gave chase and the 19-year-old Tamworth man is alleged to have resisted police attempts to detain him before he was restrained and handcuffed,” he said.
“Police then allege the man struck a constable during an attempt to convey him to the police vehicle.”
Wallman was searched by officers before goods believed to have been stolen from a break-in in the early hours of Wednesday were found.
“Items alleged to have been stolen from a break-and-enter in Thompson Cr were located,” he said.
“He is charged with breaching bail, trespass, two counts of assaulting police, resisting police, goods in custody supeceted of being stolen, possessing stolen property, assault police and aggravated break-and-enter.”
Wallman appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Thursday where he was formally refused bail on nine charges, and will reappear again on Friday.
Investigations into a police pursuit involving a car which was stolen from the Thompson Cr home are continuing.
During the same police operation, officers stopped a 25-year-old man in West Tamworth about 10am on Wednesday.
Police had cause to search the man and will allege he was in possession of stolen goods.
“On being searched, the 25-year-old is alleged to have been in possession of a piece of wood which was fashioned into an offensive implement, along with housebreaking implements,” Acting Inspector McKenzie said.
“Police will allege he was carrying a balaclava, torch, small hammer and other electronic items believed to have been stolen.”
Kyron Astole appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Thursday charged with custody of an offensive implement, possessing housebreaking implements, and two counts of goods in custody.
He was denied bail by Magistrate Robert Williams who remanded him into custody until next month.
