Tamworth Touch contacted council in August requesting a reduction of their base hire fee from $3101 to $1550.
The association only used half of the six fields traditionally used in the this year’s winter comp.
The three fields that were not used by Tamworth Touch were used for soccer training. Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) passed the motion at Tuesday’s meeting.
TRC is currently reviewing its fee structure for local sporting grounds, which they said would “result in a more fair and equitable sporting fee and charging model”.
The new fee structure is set to be rolled out in early 2017 to coincide with the 2017 winter sport season.
TRC director regional services, Peter Resch, said council’s decision to reduce Tamworth Touch’s fees shows the benefit that a full review of sporting fees and charges could deliver.
“It is a timely request from Tamworth Touch considering our Parks and Recreation staff have recently started working with the Sports Working Group to start the review which aims to develop a more fair and equitable model for sporting fees and charges,” he said.
“All clubs and associations which use Council sporting facilities will be consulted and involved in the process – but it is early days at this stage and no decisions have been made.”
“This means it will provide any sporting group with the flexibility to cater for the demand from players with variable fees based on the usage,” he said.
