The chase was sparked after a Toyota Camry was stolen from a Thompson Cr home about 1am on Wednesday.
Oxley Acting Inspector Josh McKenzie told The Leader a man broke into the home through an unlocked window.
“He has stolen personal items and a mobile phone and was disturbed by an occupant,” he said.
“The offender fled and in the process stole a Toyota Camry sedan.”
Patrolling police spotted the stolen car about 2.30am in Cossa St, before a pursuit which lasted 30 minutes.
“The pursuit reached 100km an hour in a 50 zone, and the vehicle was pursued through South Tamworth, Hillvue, West Tamworth and Taminda,” Acting Inspector McKenzie said.
“The pursuit was ultimately terminated in Edward St because of safety concerns.
“That vehicle was later recovered in Stewart Ave on Wednesday morning and enquiries are continuing.”
