At Calrossy Anglican School it’s all hands on deck this week as teachers volunteer to tutor students in the lead-up to exams.

In addition to teachers being on hand to offer their support, Scripture Union NSW has also come on board at the campus to offer a HSC Lockdown service of study, seminars and bible talks to students from all schools.

Mark Doran, Calrossy’s deputy principal, said teachers volunteered their time to ensure their students were exam ready.

“Each year a number of teachers offer to come in to run revision seminars for the students, sometimes teachers will have a specific topic they want to talk about, other times it’s a time for students to work knowing that the teacher is there to give them assistance if there’s something they’re having difficulty with” he said.

“There’s a mixed take up, some students would feel that they can work in a better way at home. T,his is purely an optional thing.”

Calrossy HSC student Sebastian Wall was one of those who took on the extra sessions.

“The HSC is so important because it’s the end of the run for schooling so if you can get through it all and try and finish on a good note and feel accomplished from that it’s motivation to go into the next stage of life with a good mindset,” he said.

“It’s definitely helpful being able to do this every day for the holidays, being around like minded people and the teachers obviously helps a lot.”

Lachie Batley, from Carinya Christian School, found the Scripture Union HSC lockdown useful.

“Lockdown has been really good because it gives you the schedule and a place to study, because everyone else is studying it’s a good environment to keep studying in. I’ve got a lot of help with English and its also good having these different math students to be studying with and helping each other out,” he said.

Lockdown coordinator David Tankard said students from six schools had signed up.

“This is a time of their life where they have a real need and potential anxiety and we can give them help in a practical way by giving them a chance to be organised, relaxed, supported and served during what is sometimes a really stressful season for them,” he said.

“We as Christians experience god’s help in our own life in stressful times, some of the students here are Christians, some are not but we would like all of them to go away from here knowing there is a god who cares about them and will support them."
