A spread of players from the various teams that took part in the two-day championships in Tamworth earned selection for the State Challenge which takes place next week.
The Challenge will be held in Sydney on October 3 and 4, with selection for an ACT Country side up for grabs.
Illawarra’s Sarah Young was named captain of the Sixers while Riverina’s Gabrielle Sutcliffe was appointed skipper of the Thunder, as both squads included a number of players who also earned selection in previous years.
Central Northern trio Dahlia Glennie, Lara Graham and Jessica Davidson were named for the Sixers while another Central Northern player, Kareena Dawson, was named for the Thunder.
This quartet also gained representative selection in the wake of last year’s Country Women’s Under 15 Cricket Championships.
Dahlia was chosen in this year’s Sixers squad as the wicketkeeper, and her top score was 28 in the recent championships.
Lara had tidy bowling figures and also made handy scores of 22 not out and 20 as an opener, while Jessica also had sound figures with the ball.
Jessica also chipped in with some useful scores at the top of the order, with a best of 34.
Kareena was quiet in a couple of matches although she stood out in a loss to Illawarra with her unbeaten 27.
Some of the Sixers and Thunder players earned selection via standout performances in the recent championships.
North Coastal’s Hannah Faux had undefeated scores of 39, 35 and 40 before being dismissed for 11 in the decider.
Hannah’s team-mate Anika Learoyd snared outstanding figures of 5-5 against Illawarra in the final.
Anika’s bowling in the deciding match was easily one of the highlights of the tournament, with Illawarra sitting at 0-48 and nearly halfway to the target before Anika was chiefly responsible for a collapse of 10-25.
The contribution of Anika’s North Coastal and impending Sixers team-mate Grace Parsons could also not be underestimated.
Grace scored 22 as an opener, and later trapped Dharmini Chauhan leg-before-wicket and ran out Sarah Young as Illawarra slipped from 0-48 to 2-48 before Anika snuffed out Illawarra’s hopes.
