The sixth annual event saw dozens of locals from Chinese, Korean, Malaysia, Korean and Taiwanese origin make lanterns and share in song to remind them of their childhood and culture. 

In Asian culture, the term round implies a family reunion, so when the moon is full, families and friends meet to drink Chinese tea, eat moon cakes, recite poems, play games and admire the full moon.

Centacare multicultural officer Suleyn Pakes said the festival allowed locals to share in tradition by making lanterns, singing moon-themed songs and being entertained by a Chinese lion.

“There are a lot of migrants from China and they don’t think to see such a festival in a small town like Tamworth, so they’re very appreciative,” she said.

The celebration closed with a lantern walk led by the dragon and Chinese drum through the streets of Tamworth.
