Finishing in the top 16 among hundreds of public schools across NSW was another outstanding achievement for Tamworth Public.
Three victories in the Tamworth region, one win at Gunnedah and a triumph at Armidale were followed by a nil-all draw with Bolwarra Public at Maitland, with Tamworth awarded the win after receiving six corner kicks to three.
The match at Maitland was very tense and hard fought as both teams worked hard for their chances yet couldn’t score in 50 minutes of regulation time and two five-minute periods of extra-time.
Jack Stanton and Tamworth Public team captain Cooper Butler put in standout displays at centre back, while centre mids Zac Walters and Bailey Reid also shone as Bailey showed particularly good skills and speed.
Max Watters and Jonah Thompson were impressive up front as they too showed impressive skills.
Coach Peter Brown said good teamwork among his squad was evident considering many of the players played with each other on weekends, “so they gel well together as a unit”.
“We’ve got good players for every single position,” Brown said, deeming that Tamworth Public was lucky in this regard.
“We do have that depth to draw from.”
Next on the agenda is a contest with Hamilton South in the next couple of weeks, with a date and venue yet to be confirmed.
