AN ELDERLY Barraba man who went missing on a hunting trip at the weekend was found safe and well yesterday morning.
Just before 6am, the search for 81-year-old Bill Mandel was called off after he was found on a property about 25km from where he went missing.
Police had conducted a full-scale search of an area about 20km north west of Barraba to find Mr Mandel, a former barber and gun salesman.
He had last been seen on Friday afternoon by his relatives when he left for the trip.
When he hadn’t returned by 11pm that night, the concerned family members called police.
Mr Mandel’s car was later found at the Little Creek Reserve on Trevallyn Rd near Barraba, sparking the extensive search of the area throughout Saturday and Sunday.
It included Polair and Westpac Rescue helicopter sweeps and police dog and trail bike units.
The search had been called off on Sunday afternoon and picked up again early yesterday morning.
Mr Mandel has since been taken to hospital where he was treated for dehydration.
Police yesterday thanked the public and media for their assistance.
