The four Year 6 students from St Edward’s Primary School blitzed the opposition at the State All Schools Athletics Championships at Homebush, snaring the open girls’ 4 x 100m relay.
“We cannot remember a relay team from the school lifting a title before,” St Ed’s principal Garry McSweeney said.
“It’s a great result for the girls and the school.
“They were second fastest going into their semi-final and then fastest qualifier after winning their semi.
“But the team from Mona Vale wasn’t far away.
“Our girls ran 55.04secs and Mona Vale 55.08secs.
“They (Mona Vale) also had the 11 year 100m champion running their last leg.”
However, Constable refused to let the Mona Vale anchor past and celebrated the victory with her three teammates.
“They deserve it too,” McSweeney said.
“They have been training hard for this, three times a week, and have put a lot of hard work in.”
Laura Jeffery led off the relay team with Alyssa second, Ruttley third and Constable the anchor leg.
The quartet of runners said they train four days a week with veteran coach Wally Warner in Tamworth, with Rob Jeffery, who helped Tamworth FC to a Northern Inland Premier League first grade football premiership recently, also providing some relay coaching.
