The Boomerangs took out the Group 19 rugby league reserve grade premiership for the third successive year as they trounced fellow Moree team the Boars 46-16 on grand final day at Varley Oval on Sunday.

The Boomerangs also achieved the distinction of winning the title from fourth place, with the Boars having finished the regular season in second place while Inverell was first and MacIntyre third.
Experience proved decisive in the grand final which never really looked in doubt as the Boomerangs chalked up a 28-6 half-time lead and maintained the upper hand afterwards.
The Boomerangs notched nine tries to three, with halfback Alan Widders (junior) and centre Tyrell Smith leading the way with two each as Widders’ performance earned him player-of-the-match honours.
Widders opened the scoring as he caught a pass that was touched near the tryline before planting the ball over the line. Curtly Hammond ran in the next try following a good run and unload from Steven Murray, before the Boars halved the margin with a converted try to Robert Doolan.
A quick pass down the blindside sent Smith across in the right corner, and the floodgates had well and truly opened when a try to Stephen Connors was followed by Widders’ second.
Smith and team-mate Rick Roberts scored in the second half to make the score 36-6, and the Boars finally added to their account as Luke Hobday scored.
Aaron Gordon and Wayne Swan claimed a four-pointer each before the Boars registered a consolation try in the dying seconds.
