Up the road at Bingara, the Bullets also progressed to the Plate elimination final and will meet Walcha next weekend in the preliminary final after the Roos were upset by Manilla at home 40-30 on Sunday.
At Boggabri a soggy Jubilee Oval was the scene of a physical and torrid encounter in the Shield minor semi.
Dungowan halfback Matt Wilson had a big game and was the only player to find the line in the first half, scotting through to go under the posts after seven minutes.
Both sides had plenty of attacking opportunities but neither side could quite break the line defence of the other, meanwhile the forwards were slogging it out in the middle with plenty of big contact all game.
Wilson found Brock Morgan out wide early in the second half to go to 10-nil before Zander Smith made it 14-nil with 27 minutes remaining.
One set later the Roos hit back when five-eighth Boyde Campbell went through, and when Beau Dawson made it 14-10 with a try in the right corner memories of last years comeback flashed through the minds of everyone at the ground.
It wasn’t to be this time around though as the Cowboys defence held off the Roos in the final minutes.
At Bingara scores were locked up at 30-30 in the final minute before the Bullets avoided golden point with a try to head to an elimination final in their first year back in the competition.
