It was the second successive time that Gunnedah beat Inverell in the Tamworth AFL competition this year, after the Saints won the first two encounters.
Gunnedah led throughout the do-or-die final but the scoreline was quite close for the most part, with the Bulldogs ultimately scoring 14-11-95 to Inverell’s 13-6-84.
Scott Hardy and Mark Ewington were Gunnedah’s main goal-scorers while Greg Piggott, Jeremiah Howgate, Ben Maher, Mitchell Swain and Matthew Pengilly also kicked at least one major each.
Dallas Baldwin, Russell Brien and Thomas McGregor landed two goals each for Inverell while seven Saints kicked one major each.
The match was transferred to the Sporting Complex due to Varley Oval staging Group 19 rugby league grand finals on Sunday.
