About 2.40am on Wednesday, a 37-year-old resident in Coronation Ave was awoken by a knock at the door.
“He opened the door to two male offenders who were wearing face coverings,” New England Inspector Chris McKinnon told Fairfax Media.
“They forced their way into the house. One of the males was armed with a machete and small box splitter and the other was armed with a tomahawk.”
Once inside, the offenders ransacked the house and stole an amount of cash, a wallet, cameras, some knives and a mobile phone.
“During the incident the victim was struck by the flat blade of the machete, causing some bruising to his upper back and arm,” Inspector McKinnon said.
“He was examined at Glen Innes hospital and released.”
Investigators are appealing for help from anyone who might have seen the masked offenders.
“Enquiries are continuing, and if anyone has information we would urge them to contact Glen Innes police or Crime Stoppers,” Inspector McKinnon said.
