About 4.20pm on Tuesday, a 27-year-old man was in his home on Sussex Street when he was confronted by a man and four teenagers.
Police have been told they threatened the resident and forced their way into the home.
The men ransacked the home and stole cash, watches, jewellery, a mobile phone, wallet and other items including two large yellow-handled knives before they ran on foot from the home.
Police were alerted and established a crime scene and are looking to speak with five men.
One of the men is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, in his late 20s and about 180cm tall. He was last seen wearing a hoodie and a base ball cap.
Three of the teenagers are described as being of Aboriginal appearance and aged 13 to 19 years old. They were last seen wearing hoodies.
One of the teenagers is described as being of Caucasian appearance and also aged 13 to 19.
He was last seen wearing a hoodie.
