ON the track and in the field, athletes from The Armidale School broke six records at the North Coast Independent Schools’ Athletics Championships at the Coffs International Stadium in Coffs Harbour on August 17.

Thomas Goodfellow broke two records, one for the 17 year boys 200 metres with a time of 23.56 seconds, before making it a double by running a blistering 11.23 seconds in the 100 metres.
Lachlan Knowles set a new benchmark in the 16 year boys 100m of 11.46, the senior 4x100m boys relay team cracked the previous record in 47.37.
Eliza Ward leapt 1.51 metres in the 13 year girls high jump, while in the 15 year boys, Nicholas Ward threw the discus 46.6metres, not only setting a new NCIS record, but also bettering the previous TAS record set in 2003 by almost six metres.
Fifty nine boys and girls ranging from Years 3-11 made up the TAS team, between them achieving 17 first placings, 6 seconds and 6 thirds.
Fifteen of these students have qualified for the Combined Independent Schools championships on 21 September.
The NCIS championships were competed by 13 schools from the Tweed Valley in the north, south to Coffs Harbour and inland to Armidale.
This success come son the back of some other great sporting success from the school.
A fortnight ago the TAS 1st XV completed a record unbeaten season to claim the third grade AAGPS rugby championship.
The boys beat heavyweights St Josephs in the final round to claim the title with a gutsy come from behind win.
