The Thoroughbreds were lucky to get there after an undefeated season went pair shaped in the major final against the Rams, the Thoroughbreds then went on to be locked up at 30-30 at the end of the preliminary final against Aberdeen.
Enter Lachlan Walmsley, who cooly potted a field goal after the Tigers made a rare kick-off mistake to start the extra period.
Walmsley’s week got better when he was awarded the Group 21 U18 Player of the Year award at the presentation night on Wednesday, before taking out the top point scorer as well.
On Sunday he will be up against the First grade award winner in Muswellbrook's Cade Boney, while Murrurundi star Dean Taylor took reserve grade.
Scone gun Sofie Casson won the league tag award after a big year with the Thoroughbreds, as well as captaining the first ever Greater Northern girls team who went on to the country champs semifinals.
Hayden Topliss scored a double to turn the tables on Aberdeen last week and the Scone fullback took out the Neil Barry Shield for most points after scoring 19 tries and 53 goals in 15 games.
Fellow thoroughbred Joshua Noble and Singleton’s Daniel Bates shared the reserve grade trophy with 92 points each, while Casson also picked up the double with 152 season points.
