This time around there are two seasons that are divided into school terms - terms one and two, and terms three and four.
The competition is all-inclusive with teams lining up from primary schools in Tamworth and across surrounding areas, and this one has a whopping 36 teams.
This makes the atmosphere vibrant for both players and spectators with some very enthusiastic and encouraging parents and grandparents showing their support from the sidelines.
Nemingha Public School has one team with Manilla Public, St Nicholas Catholic School and Carinya Christian Schools having two teams each.
South Tamworth Public has three patriotic teams and Timbumburi Public School has well and truly caught the basketball bug with no less than five teams bouncing onto the court.
Tamworth Public School are bringing the magic with their six teams and Calrossy Anglican School have stars and other astral bodies in their sights.
St Edward’s Catholic School has the lion’s share of the teams with their nine entries.
There is a lot of friendly rivalry between some of the teams that have been playing for a while, and competition can be fierce making the games very exciting spectacles.
Sportsmanship wins over competition however, and it’s fantastic to see a genuine respect for opponents and admiration for an amazing play regardless of who has made it.
Good luck to the Timbumburi girls team when they travel to Bathurst next month to compete in the state finals.
There is still time to be a part of this excellent competition.
If you wish to put in a full team or join an existing team, please contact Peter at the Sportsdome on 6762 2986.
A special well-done to the Under 16 Thunderbolts who won silver at the recent Country Premier League Championships on the Central Coast.
The boys were three points up with seconds to go in the final when Illawarra scored a three pointer to take the game into extra-time.
Unfortunately the young Bolts had run into a bit of foul trouble and had a fair bit of talent warming the bench in the crucial final minutes.
In the end they were really unlucky to go down by a single point 83-82.
Next stop for the boys is the State Championships on the weekend of September 2 to 4, when they will be mixing it with best metro teams in the state.
