The fourth annual rugby league charity cup match was played at Scone on Wednesday in wet conditions.
While both sides struggled to maintain possession, they managed to show ferocious defence to thwart several scoring opportunities.
Seeking a first win in the fixture, the Broncos stormed out to a 10-0 lead before the Cods hit back.
Oxley’s Brent Robinson made a quick dart out from dummy half to score under the post and converted successfully to make the score 10-6.
But he soon went down, breaking his leg. He was taken to hospital where he remained on Wednesday night. Oxley Inspector Matt French was named player’s player for his team after “tearing through the opposition”.
Ex-NRL player and Oxley Detective Sergeant Jason Darcy said it was an important event for officers.
"It builds up the morale and mateship that we have; we work alongside these guys and [decided to] get together once a year for a game of footy," he said.
"It's a special event this one because it's the Richardson Memorial, which means a lot to all of us.
"So we're all digging in deep."
The match paid respect to Sergeant Geoffrey Richardson, who tragically passed away in March while on his way to a pursuit at Allandale, in the Hunter region. The players met with the family before the game and also marked one minute of silence in his honour.
This year the match raised close to $6,000 for the family of Sergeant Richardson.
