About 7.30am, police and paramedics rushed to the intersection of Dampier St and Wallamore Rd in Taminda after reports a motorbike rider had fallen.
Paramedics treated a 38-year-old rider at the scene.
Police confirmed the man, a Tamworth local, suffered a broken leg, suspected pelvic injuries and concussion.
He was transported to Tamworth hospital and remained in a stable condition on Tuesday night.
A 41-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the Mitsubishi Triton was not injured.
Police said preliminary inquiries suggest the utility was travelling along Dampier St and attempted to turn at the intersection when it collided with the oncoming motorbike rider, who was thrown from the bike. The accident shut Dampier St for a number of hours while investigators examined the scene.
