Graham O’Harae appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Monday on charges of dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and two counts of causing bodily harm by misconduct.
The 64-year-old was not required to enter pleas because of the serious nature of the charges which have been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Magistrate Roger Prowse ordered investigators to serve a brief of evidence into the crash on O’Harae’s defence before the case returns to court in October.
The July 19 crash on the New England Highway, near Goonoo Goonoo Station, claimed the life of a 73-year-old man from Yamba, who was a passenger in the vehicle.
Two women, both aged 64, along with O’Harae were hospitalised with various injuries after the Peugeot left the road and rolled several times.
Investigators allege O’Harae was driving in a dangerous manner when the car left the road, about 3pm and crashed.
O’Harae was charged on July 27 following investigations by officers from the Northern Tablelands Crash Investigation Unit.
