Fatal Hunter crash on New England Highway

THE New England Highway was reopened about 2am on Saturday after a multi-car and truck pile-up on Friday afternoon killed a 52-year-old Muswellbrook man.

The crash occurred at 3.30pm on the bridge at Camberwell, about 15km north of Singleton, as a truck with a wide load approached the bridge.

Several cars stopped on the other side of the bridge facing the truck but Sergeant Andrew Googe, of Hunter Valley LAC, was unable to provide any further information from the accident report compiled by the Newcastle crash investigation unit.

Two trucks and three cars were involved in the collision.

The Muswellbrook man, who was trapped in a car, died at the scene.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

No other people involved in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries and none were hospitalised.
