Emergency services were called to a Fox St home just before 8pm on Friday after reports a 26-year-old woman had been stabbed.

She was rushed to Walgett hospital but died shortly after.

Castlereagh detectives launched an investigation and a 49-year-old man was arrested at a Dewhurst St home on Friday night.

He was charged with one count of murder.

He appeared in an out-of-sessions bail hearing on Saturday where he was formally refused bail to front court again on Monday.
