The Bulldogs will attempt to achieve what seems a monumental task – beating the impending minor premiers – which no team has been able to do yet this year. Gunnedah enters the last round before finals in fourth place, narrowly behind the Inverell Saints, who are scheduled to play away against the equal-last Narrabri Eagles.
Gunnedah enjoyed a 112-point drubbing of the Tamworth Swans last Saturday, but the unbeaten Nomads bettered it as they slaughtered Inverell by 174 points.
The Bulldogs have been no match for the Nomads in the two encounters so far this season, with New England winning 159-53 and 146-39..
Their clash will be the first of a double header with the Tamworth Kangaroos following against the Suns.
The Kangaroos are assured off finishing second and will be looking to get as much out of the game as they can ahead of their major semi-final match-up with the Nomads next Saturday.
“We'll be going full throttle tomorrow,” Roos coach Tony Bishop said.
He wants to see them apply the same intensity from the warm-up all through the game, seeing it as one of the critical things against the Nomads.
“I don't care about the score. It's about how they go about their business in every contest and their interactions with each other, which is important,” he said.
They will be close to full strength.
“We're only two or three off our best side, which is good,” Bishop said.
“We've hardly been that close to a full side all season.”
