Let's do it All Again in Coona Cup

LESLEY Jeffriess is hoping to turn the clocks back a few years when All Again tries to win his second Coonabarabran Cup today.

The Tamworth trainer won the 2008 Coona Cup four years ago with the then five-year-old son of Reenact and sees no reason why he cannot win this year after the race “fell away a bit”.

“He’s a bit of a chance now,” Jeffriess said of her gelding’s hopes in the $40,000 Pat Behn Wall Coonabarabran Cup (1600m).

“He’ll run a good race out there.

“Hopefully he’ll put his best foot forward out there.

“After all, he did win it in 2008. I know – I’ve got the photo on the wall at home.”

All Again’s form is better than it might look too.

“It was a good run at Bundarra (second to Rhodonite in the Bundarra Cup).

“His two before that were all right too –  they were just too short for him.

“I didn’t expect him to run that well at Bundarra.”

Darren Jones rode All Again when they won the 2008 Coonabarabran Cup and has ridden him in most of his 16 race wins but was “iffy” about reuniting today,  Jeffriess said.

However the fact the field is down to 10 ensured the Tamworth hoop will make the trip out for a race the gelding is an $11chance in.

Jones also had a win at Inverell on Saturday when he partnered Guess What for Barraba trainer Debbie Wilson.

All Again has had just the one run at Coonabarabran for that Cup success and the long run and incline up to the finish line will work in his favour as he strives to add to his 16 race wins in 84 starts.

He has amassed $224,730 in prizemoney.

Kwila’s Law has had just the one start at Coonabarabran too but he had to settle for a two-length second to Izababe in the 2010 Coonabarabran Cup.

The nine-year-old gelding son of Lawyer is having his 74th race start today and chasing a ninth win although he has run 18 seconds.

That includes runner-up trophies in not only the Coona Cup but also the 2010 Coonamble Cup, this year’s Tuncurry and Armidale Cups and the Tamworth Mornington.

Kwila’s Law was rated a 9-2 second favourite behind Mudgee-trained Are You Sure, who was sixth to subsequent Sydney winner Snitsky at his last start in Sydney.

Last-start winner Kalkie Miss, trained on the Coonabarabran track by Wayne Martyn, is the outsider of the 10-horse field, rated a 20-1 chance.

The seven-year-old daughter of Melbourne Cup-winning Jeune won the Gulargambone Cup last time out.

Ken Dunbar rode her at Gular and reunites today.
