Though only a pre-season clash, both the Jets and the Mariners wanted the bragging rights going into the new season, and the fans witnessed a treat with both teams playing their hearts out and putting on a great spectacle.
Though the Mariners came out with the win, Jets Coach Scott Miller thought the result was a fair indication of the game and expressed his desire to return and play again at Tamworth next year.
Over 2000 fans turned up for the first A-League fixture at the new Scully Park Sporting Complex to witness the Mariners just edge out their F3 derby rivals Newcastle in the pre-season clash.
The Jets hoped to elave the region with a few more fans after hosting open training sessions and Jets Play clinics for kids in Newcastle, Muswellbrook and Tamworth during the four day country tour.
