Everyone was very excited as they set off from Hillvue bound for their first major stop at Sydney’s Olympic pool where all the students enjoyed whirling around in the pool’s whirlpool.
Day two was filled with political matters voting at the Electoral Commission in Old Parliament House, learning how a law gets made in the Upper House in New Parliament House and how Canberra was designed at the National Planning Centre.
Day two ended with a windy, cold visit to Telstra Tower to watch the sun set over Canberra.
We were up and at it very early on Wednesday morning to get ready for a day in the snow.
At the bottom of the mountain we got on a train which took everyone to Bullock Flats – Perisher.
As we walked out onto the snow fields we were greeted with a beautiful day and the snow fields were glistening in the sunlight.
Everyone enjoyed the traditional snowball fight – and the students seemed to especially enjoy throwing snowballs at the teachers, as well as making snow angels and having a ride on the chairlift.
The most exciting part of the day was the spinning tube rides down the snow slope.
After a long fun-filled day at the snow everyone was worn out and struggled to wake up on Thursday morning.
We began the day by showing our respect to the nation’s fallen soldiers at the War Memorial.
We got to view some amazing displays depicting the hardships our soldiers endured during the war and we laid a poppy on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
It was a very moving experience.
Our next adventure for the day was a tour around the Australian Institute of Sport.
The day ended with an exciting, fast-passed time at Questacon – the National Science and Technology Centre on the southern shore of Lake Burley Griffin.
It has more than 200 interactive exhibits relating to science and technology.
Everyone enjoyed the hands-on displays and discovering how things worked.
The show on how rockets worked had us laughing with tears rolling down our face and we fell in love with the free fall slide.
Day five started with packing our bags and getting them back on the bus ready for the long trip home.
Even though we had had an amazing week, and got to visit some incredible places, everyone agreed that they were ready to get home to see their families to be able to share stories about our adventures in Canberra.
