DUE to the scorching 34-plus degree temperatures forecast for the weekend, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) has suspended fire permits across the region.
All fire permits have been suspended in the Liverpool Plains, the Upper Hunter, Gunnedah, New England, North West, Northern Slopes and the Greater Hunter effective from 12.01am today until 6pm on Monday.
This means no campfires or wood barbecues.
Gas barbecues are allowed, but only if they’re within 10 metres of the house and running water.
There were seven fires burning in the region yesterday afternoon, according to the RFS, with the biggest one being at Mann River, west of Tenterfield.
RFS community safety officer Inspector Graham Brown said all residents in the Liverpool Ranges zone should take the conditions seriously.
